War-date Confederate Autograph Letter Signed by Surgeon E. Miller, 1pp. quarto, “Dept. for Wounded near Burt Bridge W&M R.R.” September 25, 1863, and reads in part: “...I have the honor to report the continued arrival at this point of the wounded from the field, the transportation from here by R.R. I find sadly deficient more especially of the past two days. There are 20 car loads of suffering men by the track....” Fine condition. The Chickamauga Campaign was the first major battle of the war fought in Georgia, the most significant Union defeat in the Western Theater, and involved the second-highest number of casualties after the Battle of Gettysburg
