War-date Union soldier Autograph Letter Signed by William Newell Irvine, 1st Minnesota Infantry, DOW from a head injury received at Petersburg 6/18/1864, 2pp. quarto, Camp Stone, Edwards Ferry, Maryland, September 7, 1861, and reads in part: “...There is pickets seen every day over from the Ferry. They shoot across once and while. We returned the fire one day and killed one man. We saw them lug him off...We have to put on our dress coats every night for dress parade. We have scales on the shoulders which we have to keep bright...Alfred Dodge is in a Pennsylvania Regiment...Morris Newel has enlisted in the Chicago Dragoons...” Fine condition.
