Group of sixteen (16) letters penned by Union soldiers and civilians to the Carpenter family of Galena, Ohio, most with covers, includes: ALS by Joel Cleveland, 2pp. quarto, April 5, 1865, and reads in part: “...the fall of Richmond you better believe there is general rejoicing here over the rout of Lee and his rebel Army even the town of Chesire burnt about three pounds of powder...” Fine condition...plus; ALS by Union solider, 4pp. octavo, Vicksburg, Mississippi, September 14, 1862, “Tell Katt that every opportunity he gets, I want him to hurrah for U.S. Grant and if they ask him why he does it tell them he does it for me...” Fine condition...plus; ALS Harrisburg, Penn. July 7, 1864, in part: “...on account of the near approach of the Rebels to this place we have had all we could do for over a week now. This morn the streets are filled with men, horses cattle from the county all eager to escape the dreaded presence of their Rebel neighbors...” Much much more. Worthy of further research. Fine condition overall.
