War-date Union soldier's letter, 3 3/4pp. 8vo., letter written by Pvt. Charles H. Lancaster, Co. C, 11th New Hampshire Vols. [WIA Fredericksburg, Va., Dec. 13, 1862], Annapolis, MD, April 17, 1864, in part: "…you have doubtless heard of Cyrus' death…it makes the 4th one who has died from our Regt. since we left Tenn….our Regt. would have have been home at [the] town meeting if we had left Tenn. [at] the time we first expected. The Colonel has been trying to get us home since we have been here, but without success…I went down to the wharf the other day where the oyster boats come in and opened and ate as many as I wanted out of the shell…it seems good to be in a place again where we can have full rations…where one is not afraid to eat all he wants…for fear that he wont have anything to eat at the next meal. We have a splendid camping ground and have A tents…the Goffstown boys are all well…Charles H. Lancaster. Expected condition with light soiling, else VG
