War-date Union soldier Autograph Letter Signed by Daniel Baker, 45th Illinois Infantry, 3pp. octavo, on rare “Sinking of the Pirate Alabama” lettersheet, August 14, 1864, Fort Barnard, Virginia, and reads in part: “...Was on guard yesterday and it was hot enough to roast a feller...I don’t think I can ever desert. You must keep up good courage and live in hompes of our meeting again...You said that you guessed that I wished that I hadn’t got any woman...If I can’t support you I had better stay down here I guess....I will have some more money when I get my pay...This is from your husband Daniel baker to his wife, Hat Baker....” Fine condition.
