A heart felt young woman's letter from Massachusetts, 4pp. 8vo., written by "Josie", Conway, [Mass.], April 30, 1865, in part: "…we have been beriene[?] Oh deeply in the lose of our beloved president. It seems to much after we have had such great victorious and rejoiced…that we should be called to mourn so soon and so bitterly but there is one good thing in it and that is that we shall soon find out who are traitors and who are not. There are more traitors than we ever thought of. I am glad that they have killed Booth, but his life will not half pay for the president's…Josie.". Included is the original stamped transmittal cover plus an unusual hand-made orange and black interwoven glossy paper slip case that contains an oval cut-out engraving of an older mustached gentleman that was found inside the letter. Overall near fine.
