An April 21, 1942 United States Military Identification of Warplanes 12” diameter, two side spinning cardboard wheel that gives much information about enemy and allied planes. This warplane ID wheel was put out only a few months after the United States entered the war after Pearl Harbor was attacked on December 7, 1941. As you turn the inside rotating wheel to identify a certain plane the wheel tells you the "WINGS AND LOCATION OF WINGS ON THE PLANE, NUMBER OF ENGINES, WING SHAPE FRONT REAR OR TIP, LANDING GEAR, TAIL AND RUDDER, NOSE TYPE". Each size of the rotating ID card works independently from the other side and both sides ID the silhouette of different planes. The rotating cards state in part "IDENTIFICATION OF WARPLANES,RESRICTED U.S. GOVERNMENT PRINTING OFFICE 4-21-1942". The Warplane Identification card came from the estate of a WWII veteran that fly in US Army Mitchell Bombers with the 38th Bomber Group in the South Pacific against the Japanese. The cardboard Warplane Identification Card is 12 inches across in size and the rotating cardboard wheels on each side are 7 ½ inches across in size. The cardboard ID card has some light toning from age and a couple of small bumps on the edge but overall looks nice for the age. This is probably a very scarce if not rare restricted Warplane ID card from the War as most restricted items were probably destroyed.
