From the 1860 census: Charleston, Ward 1, 15 enslaved people, and Sumter District, 95 enslaved people (including 29 mulatto people) Document Signed “CM Furman” on verso of check issued to James Harrison on a Bank of South Carolina account, October 7, 1859, for $7344. Fine condition. GOURDIN, Theodore Samuel (d.1859) A Georgetown, South Carolina doctor and large slave owner and relative of Theodore Gourdin an early South Carolina congressman who owned over 381 slaves at one time. Document Signed “Theo S. Gourdin” for tax of $10.52 on this Bank of Charleston account. Fine condition.
