WICKHAM, Williams Carter (1820-1888) was a Virginia lawyer, plantation owner and politician. At the Virginia Secession Convention of 1861, Wickham voted against secession, yet when fellow delegates and voters approved secession, he became an important Confederate cavalry general. After the American Civil War, Wickham became a Republican and served in the Virginia Senate as well as became President of the Chesapeake and Ohio Railway company. TAYLOR, Walter Herron (1838-1916) was an American banker, lawyer, soldier, politician, author, and railroad executive from Norfolk, Virginia. During the American Civil War, he fought with the Confederate States Army, became a key aide to General Robert E. Lee and rose to the rank of lieutenant colonel. After the war, Herron became a senator in the Virginia General Assembly, and attorney for the Norfolk and Western Railway and later the Virginian Railway. War-date Confederate Document Signed “Wm. C. Wickham Col. 4th Va. Cav.” on portion of letter with Autograph Endorsement Signed on verso by Walter Taylor, January 27, 1864, Head Quarters Army of Northern Virginia, by order of General Robert E. Lee. Fine condition.
