HENDREN, John N.(1822 — 1898) had been a Virginia attorney and judge who served as the second Treasurer of the Confederate States of America, serving during the last year of the American Civil War. Secretary of the Treasury Christopher Memminger resigned his post on July 18, 1864, and was replaced by fellow South Carolinian George Trenholm. However, Edward C. Elmore initially stayed on as Treasurer under Trenholm, but resigned in the autumn. Shortly afterward, Hendren posted his bond on October 10, 1864, and assumed the role of Treasurer. He stayed in his post until the fall of the Confederacy in April 1865. TYLER, Robert (1816-1877) was the eldest son of John Tyler, the tenth President of the United States, and Letitia Christian Tyler. He served as the Confederate Register of the Treasury during the American Civil War. Previously, Tyler served as private secretary for his father's presidential administration. In later life, he served as the editor of the Montgomery Advertiser. His wife Priscilla Cooper Tyler served in place of the First Lady of the United States from September 10, 1842, to June 26, 1844, between the death of her mother-in-law and President Tyler's remarriage.
