Black Bordered death announcement, 1p. 8vo., issued by George B. McClellan after Col. Edward Baker's death as commander of the 71st Penn. Vols. during the battle of Ball's Bluff, Va., as General Orders No. 31, "Headquarters, Army of the Potomac, Washington, Oct. 22, 1861," announcing, in part: "The Major General…with sincere sorrow, announces to the Army of the Potomac the eat of Colonel Edward D. Baker, who fell gloriously in battle on the evening of Monday, the 21st October, 1861, near Leesburg, Virginia…at the time of his death he was a member of the United States Senate for Oregon…one of the most eloquent voices in that illustrious body has been silenced by his fall…and has now sealed with his blood his devotion to the National flag…the remains…will be interred in this city with the honor due to his rank…ordered by Brigadier General Silas Casey…by command of Major General McClellan: S.
