War-date Union army pass for sutler, being a 1p. 12mo partly-printed pass issued by the "Inspector General's Office, Army of Virginia, Washington" on Aug. 30, 1862 (while the battle of Second Bull Run raged), allowing, in part: "Mr. French, Clerk to the 4th Maine Vol. one team & driver…to pass within the lines of this army to Camp 4th M. Vol. for the purpose of supplying their Regt. with authorized Sutler's Goods. By command of Major General Pope: Good until 1st Oct. 62". Signed and made official by Major Roger Jones, as assistant inspector general. Some soiling, else VG
