War-date Union soldier's letter, 3pp. 8vo., written, on "I am for the Union" patriotic stationery, by Pvt. Harrison Gibble (Gipple in the CW database), Co. A, 79th Penn. Vols., Camp Hambright, [Harrisburg, Pa.], Nov. 17, 1861, to his friend, Henry C. Gringrich, in part: "…find enclosed an order of twenty five dollars…I would like if you…would get it for my wife… and if she need the money…give it to her [and] if she don't keep the balance…till other times when she need it. The reason…is this. She is so often from home …it might be taken in her absence…we will come by railroad…I had to go to drill. That is the reason I wrote with different ink. We had a review. The general said we should keep ready…we have soon some fighting to do for our winter quarters. I will write to you, if I don't get killed, how fighting goes…H. Gibble." Near fine.
