War-date Union soldier's letter, 4pp. 8vo., written by Pvt. Harrison Gibble (Gipple in the CW database), Co. A, 79th Penn. Vols., "Park Barracks near Louisville, KY., Oct. 15, 1862," to his friend, Henry C. Gringrich, in part: "…I left for Louisville with Buell's wagon train 1500 teams in all. Our Regt. had 5 teams amongst the train and the Col. said if I could take charge of them to keep the wagons and mules in order (in shoeing and repairing wagon etc) I done so till we came to Louisville…a march of 125 miles and an awful one. We hardly had anything to eat…the regiment…had a very hard fight near Perryville, Ky. There was a good many of the regt. killed and wounded…Dr. Dunlap's brother was shot in the hand…all our wounded are coming to this place…they are after Bragg's in hot pursuit. I hope they will soon destroy his whole army…H. Gibble…". VG.
