War-date Union soldier's letter, 4pp. 8vo., written by Pvt. Harrison Gibble (Gipple in the CW database), Co. A, 79th Penn. Vols., "Park Barracks near Louisville, KY., Oct. 25, 1862," to his friend, Henry C. Gringrich, in part: "…our regiment is cut up batly and Louis Richards is one of the victims. He fell at the first fire, Chambers…is safe…there is about 50 men of our regiment which are able to follow again…tell [Doctor] Dunlap to write and let me hear if he got a letter of Saml. He got wounded and I can't learn where he is…tell Chambers' wife that he got safe out of the Battle of Chaplin Hill…H. Gibble. Direct to Louisville, Ky. Co. A 79th P. V…". Also, included is a nurse's one page, 8vo., letter written for Gibble, by an anonymous good samaritan, Louisville, Ky., Nov. 3, 1862, in part: "…send me the sum of ten dollars to…Gross & Walter, Market Street…I am lying sick and unable to write so I got this written for me…H. Gibble." (2 letters)
