War-date Union cavalryman's letter written by Pvt. Jeremiah H. Obetz, Co. G, 9th Penn. Cavalry, Warren Co. Glasgow, KY, June 21, 1862, 4pp. 8vo., to his friend Henry C. Gringrich, reading, in part: "…I never had one punishment but one that was…guard for two nights in succession for not getting out of bed to go on guard…I will let my commanders speak for me on that subject…before I enlisted I took a notion to obey my officers and I led that way so far…Co's. G & K were in pursuit of [John Hunt] Morgan up to the Cumberland Mountains…we could not go any further on account of him being fortified to[o] well. He could play top with two companies if they would attempt to route him out of the Gap…we will go to Bowling Green tomorrow…give me the particulars of the C. & R. R. Road…J. H. Obetz…". A bit toning, else VG
