A rare printed U. S. Sanitary Fair circular, 1p. 4to., [n. d., but April 1865] published by the executive committee of the North West Sanitary Fair, calling for the public's support for the many thousands of Union veterans who need help and support after receiving debilitating wounds during the war, reading, in small part: "In order to…remove false impressions that have gone forth…on account of our recent victories, and prospect of an early termination to the war, [that] the great forthcoming Fair is not as necessary as heretofore…three hundred thousand sick and wounded soldiers are now in hospitals all over the land…comforts and delicacies for these brave sufferers, will require a greater amount of means, than the most sanguine of the Fair expect to realize from it. Every man of the three hundred thousand belongs to us…they stood in our stead and have been mangled and made helpless for us. We cannot repudiate the debt we owe them…a hundred thousand of these men must have "Homes" for life…we trust that the North West will not permit her…glorious record to be clouded, so near the close of the War. Let all unite to give such a benefit to the boys in blue…let the people pay another heavy installment on the debt due to them…Executive Committee, of the N. W.
