A congratulatory letter written to the Civil War Governor of Illinois Richard Yates, as U. S. Senator, on rare Illinois Female College advertising stationery, 2pp. 8vo., written by Hardin Wallace, Golconda County, Illinois, Mar. 4, 1867, reading, in part: "Old Friend I am here in Southern Illinois organizing County Sunday School Conventions…I still live in Jacksonville…picked up the Missouri Republican, [and] saw a heading. The Temperance Movement Address of Senator Yates. I read it with eager haste and great gratification. I have always felt an interest in your welfare and sometimes feared that enemy might serious hurt you…Illinois is proud of you. Yes loves you…God's grace can keep you…be a firm Christian…I was always your personal and political friend. Make frequent Temperance Speeches it will strengthen you…Hardin Wallace." Written on Illinois Female College Advertising Stationery with a finely illustrated wood cut of the college's campus and advertisement by the school's then President Adams, announcing, in part: "Located at Jacksonville, Ill. Beautiful grounds and buildings. Accommodations for 150 resident students…a course of liberal education for young ladies. Extras-music, drawing and painting; also, Greek, German and French languages…expenses for board, instruction…about $200 per year. Music…with piano $60. Each lady must bring towels, napkins, knife and fork…sheets…and toilet furniture…come anytime and you will be welcome. C. Adams, President." It should be noted that the college remains in existence today as MacMurray College. Minor spotting, else VG.
