An uncolored period cover. Abe Lincoln on an armored platform holding an American Flag out to a man in the water. Abe is saying to the man, "I say old fellow just hold on to this ere flag or, you are lost". Abe, with an eagle on his right, is surrounded by barrels and crates labeled 'Provisions' and behind him are the masts of a large Union warship. 'North' is written next to Abe's stovepipe hat. The man in the water looks to be struggling and has lost his hat. 'South' is written on the brim of the hat. There is a Confederate flag floating in the water. Also a menacing looking alligator with the word 'secession' written below his jaw.
