Plaquette 1-3/4" x 2-1/2") commemorates of Victor David Brenner's birth, the medalist and sculpture best known for the design of the Lincoln Cent .This was issued in 1971 on the occasion of the Chase Bank exhibition of Brenner's work that same year. The obverse features Brenner's own Lincoln design he copyrighted in 1907 as a speculative venture, producing large formats of the portrait on 7.5" x 9" galvanos, some mounted on marble. Brenner showed a plaque of this design to Teddy Roosevelt while Brenner prepared portrait sketches of Teddy for the Panama Canal Service Medal. It is a predecessor design to the Lincoln Cent. The die for this obverse was reduced from Brenner's original design via the Janvier lathe; the original design was part of Victor's estate, portions of which were sold to Medallic Art Company after Victor passed away, The reverse features Brenner's own self portrait created in galvano form in 1897, and then placed on his medallic Calling Card of 1898 produced in Paris under the tutelage of Louis Oscar Roty. This medal is in very good condition.
