Officer’s Prisoner Letter written by “(W) Carve(l) (Hall)”, 1pp., October 9, 1863, to Master Wm. Hall Harris, VG. In part, “We are not permitted to ‘walk around’ as you seem to suppose, and except to bathe one or twice during the summer, I have not been on the beach. But I certainly will send an addition to your collection in a day or two. We have quit a large party here just now, about eighteen hundred, I think, and we have Hoffman’s batallion as guard. We have some merry games of ball and all sort of things and manage to get along quit well, but as you may suppose, are very anxious to get back to Dixie again, and I expect find the paragraphs in regards to exchange that occasionally appear in the papers the most interesting topics...”Hall was released in March 1864.
