War-date Union soldier's letter, 2pp. 8vo., written by Corp. Mathew Halpin, [POW Second Bull Run, Va., 8/29/62,] Co. E, 2nd New York Veteran Cavalry, "Camp of the 2d Veteran Cavalry," [Washington], Nov. 3, 1863, to his friend Albert A. Fletcher, reading, in part: "…we left Saratoga 2 weeks ago…we left…on short notice…I seen Lieut. [Clark W.] Huntely at Saratoga. He rode on the cars with us to Albany. I saw Jim Olmstead and all the Bridgport Boys in the 11th VT. They are well & have got good quarters…direct to Corp. Mathew Halpin, Co. E 2d Vet. Cavalry, Washington, D. C…Mathew."
