A good war-date Pennsylvania soldier's letter, 1 1/3pp. 8vo., by Corp. John Bell, Co. G, 69th Penn. Vols., [WIA Fredericksburg], [n. p., but South Mountain, MD], Sept. 16, 1862, to his parents, in part: "…I am well at present and hope that these few lines will find you the same. You must forgive me for not writing for we have been marching for 12 days and charging the enemy before us….Sunday night we laid on the battle field. Today we are a going to the Potomac. They have [Stonewall] Jackson hemmed in [at Harpers Ferry] and we will give him what he wants. We have the news that we got 9,000 prisoners last night. John Bell." VG
