A loyal woman of the North asks for a pass to visit friends in the "Southern Army", 1p. oblong 12mo., written by a certain "Mrs. E. J. W. Monmouth, Canterbury, N. H. March 20, 1862, addressed to General Wool at Baltimore, reading, in part: "This is to inquire if ladies can pass South via Fortress Monroe to seek for friends in the Confederate Army? If so what must be their course from Boston to reach Norfolk, Va.? I can not learn this from any…Northern Generals. I am a resident of the North and have near friends in the Southern Army from whom no tidings have been received for fifteen months…Mrs. E. J. W. Monmouth." Docketed on the verso as, "Ans'd. by Maj.
