Relic grade Model 1861 Type I Springfield Rifle Musket, .58 caliber, three bands, walnut stock, barrel's breech. 55 ½" overall length. The heavily pitted metal throughout has been stabilized. This rifle found its way to the bottom of the James River as a result of explosion of a barge, August 1864.
