Saint Gaudens Columbian Exposition official award medal, 1892-1893 Eglit 90; Baxter 87; Marqusee 348 76.mm Bronze. Augustus Saint Gaudens (Obv) and Charles Barber (Rev.), Uncirculated. Obverse with a full lenghth figure of Columbus stepping ashore on the soil of the New World. Barber's reverse design features a large central cartouche with a six line commemorative inscription, Above is a globe followed by two females and at the bottom is view of sailing ship. This was issued to "George W. Miller" in raised lettering on the reverse. In original case. Ex- Rex Stark collection. Very good condition. The Worlds Columbian Exposition held in Chicago in 1893, was the last and the greatest of the nineteenth Centuries Worlds fairs. Nominally a celebration of Columbus' voyages 400 years prior.
