A great Gettysburg related Union General Daniel E. Sickles' related booklet, entitled: "Trial of the Hon. Daniel E. Sickles for Shooting Philip Barton Key, Esq., U. S. District Attorney, of Washington, D. C. February 27th, 1859." as Dewitt's 'Special Report', 106pp. 8vo., reported by Felix G. Fontaine, New York City, 1859. Born to a wealthy family in New York City. His life had been surrounded by scandal, including the murder of his wife's lover Philip B. Key, a U.S. Attorney and son of Francis Scott Key whom he gunned down in broad daylight in Lafayette Square, Washington. He was acquitted after claiming temporary insanity as a legal defense for the first time in United States history that became a defense associated with crimes of passion.
