A pair of mounted albumen photographs to include; photgrapher’s staged scene of three men drinking, 5-1/2”x4” to larger mount with ID on front mount, “F.B. Fiske, Fort Yates N. Dak.” Ink ID on the reverse, “Middle Major McLaughlin, Right Benjamin White”, VG. ... plus, Another monted albumen, 4-1/2” x 6-1/2” to larger mount, of four men, three in Indian costume, and a soldier seated in the center. Ink notations on the mount “My Father” and “Frank Fiske”. The photographer stamp ID “F.B. Fiske, Artistic Photographer, Fort Yates, N.D. Mount is chipped, image VG. Frank Fiske served as an assistant steamboat captain prior to his lifelong work as a studio photographer, mostly associated with Fort Yates N.D. He learned the trade from S.T. Fansler, post studio photographer, and remained in Fort Yates to document the town, the Standing Rock Agency, and the changing ways of the frontier. Fiske was also a writer, and served for a time as a newspaper editor, and wrote a popular column carried in many newspapers. He was best known for his Indian photographs, which depicted everyday Indian life, as well as studio views.
