Newspaper broadsheet, an authentic issue of the Tri-Weekly State Gazette, Austin, Texas, October 19, 1863, 9-1/2" x 12-1/2", never bound, weak at the fold with minor show through. VG. This Confederate newspaper reports both local and national news as well as a scattering of advertisements. From the front side an extraordinary address by Braxton Brag, in part, "It has pleased Almighty God to reward the valor and endurance of our troops by giving our arms a complete victory over the enemy's superior numbers..... you have stormed the barricades and breastworks of the enemy and driven him before you in confusion, and destroyed an army largely superior in numbers...." Additionally, a runaway slave ad for $350 for the return of "a ginger cake colored negro girl, aged 26 ...." The ad issued by a woman, Susan Thomas.
