Confederate Imprint, 2p. octavo, Adjutant and Inspector General's Office, Richmond, May 12, 1863, being General Orders No. 59 issued by Samuel Cooper, Surgeon General of the Confederacy with pull out sample hospital form. The new requirements listed by Cooper read in part: "The attention of regimental commanders throughout the army is called to the requirements of paragraph I, General Orders, No. 69, of 1862, which makes it the duty of adjutants to enquire into and report to this office all cases of slaves serving with their respective regiments, without written authority from their masters…It will be the duty of a surgeon in charge of a hospital to make a separate Provision Return from all the persons attached to the hospital who may be entitled to rations, except the sick and wounded soldiers, and the issuing commissary will issue to said persons the same rations that are issued to soldiers in the field…" With large purple "REBEL ARCHIVES" stamp. Binding holes, else VG.
