War-date Confederate Soldier Autograph Letter Signed by W.T. Lawson, Co. A, 24th Virginia Regiment, Kemper's Brigade, Pickett's Division, 4pp. octavo, Camp Near Culpepper Court House, Virginia, July 29, 1863, and reads in part: "...myself being helped and allowed to pass through another hard and bloody battle, yes the bloodiest of the war - the battle of Gettysburg in Pa is the one I have reference to. All of our company was killed and wounded but for thought the most of them were but slightly wounded and have reported to the company for duty today. I was hit twice while we were engaged. Thankfully it did not prevent me from good execution while the fight lasted. We lost two thousand of our division, and every colonel in the Division was killed and wounded but one and also all of our Brigadier Generals in the Division was killed and wounded. My first Lt. J. W. Headen was badly wounded and the third Lt. Kitterman was mortally wounded. Though while the Yankees was thinning our ranks we did not fail to do our part towards them wherever we went the ground was almost covered with dead Yanks that is on the battlefield...."
