C, 19th Iowa Infantry, 3-1/2p. octavo, September 8, 1864, Barancus, Florida, it mentions "I last rode out to Pensacola but did not see any rebs...I don't believe this is a very healthy place there is a good many of our boys getting sick here but not dangerous the niggers is dying pretty fast about 18...per day, I do not know what is the matter with them...I have been in all the armies but the Potomac and I would like to be in that before it closes...I heard yesterday that Sam Thornton was wounded at Memphis in the right leg…" VG.
