A great early Alabama Secession letter, 1p. 4to., written by Col. John J. Seibels (colonel 6th Alabama Infantry, April 1861), "Head Quarters," Montgomery, [Ala.], Jan. 17, 1861 to Col. Tennet Lomax (KIA Seven Pines, Va., May 31, 1862 as colonel 3rd Alabama Infantry), reading, in part: "The Governor [Andrew B. Moore] directs…that he has sent Doct. Belleuque down to Pensacola and has instructed him to report to you for duty making cartridges. You will allow him to employ the necessary force for that purpose having a due regard to economy & the necessities of the service…J. J. Seibels, Col…". Negligible stains, else VG.
