A rare printed circular, 1p. 8vo., "Executive Department of Alabama," Montgomery, Ala., July 25, 1865, issued by the Provisional Governor of Alabama, Lewis E. Parsons, imploring the state's citizens to keep in mind these facts before applying for a Federal Government pardon, reading, in very small part: "For the purpose of enabling those who desire to apply for pardon…they will do well to notice the following points…are you under arrest…did you order the taking of Fort Morgan or Mount Vernon Arsenal…have you served on any 'vigilance committee' during the war before which persons charge with disloyalty to the Confederate States…has any person been shot or hung by your order…or aided in shooting…any person…have you…been engaged in hunting anyone with dogs…were you in favor of the so-called ordinance of secession…on the 11th day of January, 1861…will you be a peaceable and loyal citizen in the future…LEWIS E.
