Slave purchase letter, 1p. 4to., written by "H. R. Briscoe, Piedmont, Charlestown, (West) Virginia, Dec. 30, 1854, to "Mr. Seybert," reading, in part: "I understand that you have for sale a negro boy…I wish to purchase a boy…let me know his age and your price immediately, as I now in want of one…respectfully, H. R. Briscoe…Piedmont near Charlestown, Jefferson Co., Va." The original postmarked transmittal leaf on the verso, addressed to: "Henry Jacob Seybert, Hodge's Hill, Berkley County, Va.," with rare "Charlestown, Va., Jan. 3." with "Paid 3" cancellations. Near fine.
