Pencil sketch of "A 'Family Schoolhouse' on the plantation of Mr. Thomas Garret Edgefield Dist. So. Carolina, 1856" by Sarah Melindy, 5"x4-3/8". Very good condition. The Garrett Plantation had 140 slaves during the year 1827. In 1888 After a series of mortgagees, O.P. Williams foreclosed on J.H. Renneker, Jr. forcing the plantation to auctioned once again. Benjamin Garrett, an African-American farmer, purchased the 837 acre plantation.
