Confederate $1000 bond, issued February 20, 1863, with nice center portrait of General Stonewall Jackson, printed on pink paper, several attached coupons remain. This bond has a rare "ISSUED AT HOUSTON, TEXAS" stamp with signature of the Confederate Treasury agent. Fine condition. After the capture of Vicksburg by the forces under General U.S. Grant, the Union controlled the Mississippi River thus effectively cutting the Confederacy in two. Bonds issued by the Confederate treasury in the Trans-Mississippi Department then required a counter signature of the CSA depositary agent in Shreveport or in Houston.
