LAW, Evander McIver (1836-1920) was an author, teacher, and a Confederate general in the Civil War. At the Battle of Gettysburg, Law's brigade fought in the unsuccessful assault on the Union left on July 2, 1863, on Little Round Top and the Devil's Den. Autograph Letter Signed "E.M. Law" 1pp. octavo, on The York Enterprise letterhead, June 17, 1892, Yorkville, South Carolina, addressed to Ben Austin and reads in part: "...I enclose the autographs requested and regret that I haven't a photograph to send you...I have many friends among the old soldiers in Texas. Hood's afterwards Robertson's Brigade served with mine and was frequently under my command throughout the war. Next to my own 'people' they have the warmest place in my heart..." With large autograph on separate paper "E M Law". Inlaid, else fine condition.
