Partially printed document,7-1/2" x 4.-1/4". Greensboro, NC. May 1, 1865. Parole issued to Samuel Burke, Co I, 3rd Va Reg., "not to take up arms against the Government of the United States..." Signed by CSA Commanding Surgeon Hugh Stockdell and Brevet Brigadier General William Hartsuff, USA Special Commissioner. The Greensboro parole given when CSA General Joseph E. Johnston surrendered to Major General W.T. Sherman along with the Appomattox parole are the two most significant paroles. This is a near excellent example.
