PEGRAM, John (1832-1865) was a career soldier from Virginia who served as an officer in the United States Army and then as a brigadier general in the Confederate Army during the American Civil War. He became the first former U.S. Army officer to be captured in Confederate service in 1861 and was killed in action near the end of the war. Confederate General John Pegram Report Signed "Jn. Pegram". One page, 8" x 10", dated December 14, 1863, report of disabled officers of Pegram's Brigade, fine condition. A report indicating not only names, ranks, regiments, companies but characteristics of disabilities - "...In hands of enemy...", "...Chronic rheumatism", "...Leg amputation", "...Absent without authority", "...Wounded Gaines Mill & since disabled", etc. Pegram was killed at Hatcher's Run on February 6, 1865.
