Cabinet photograph by A.K.P. Trask, 1210 Chestnut St., Philadelphia, 1888, with the title on the reverse, "This Table and Inkstand were used by the signers of the Declaration of the Anti-Slavery Convention, Philadelphia, December 6th, 1833." It continues with the names of the 60 who attended the convention (includes Wm. L. garrison, Lewis Tappan). William Lloyd Garrison was the original founder of the American Anti-Slavery Society in 1833. Three years before founding the Society, Garrison began the newspaper The Liberator. This abolitionist paper argued for the immediate freedom of all slaves and operated under the motto of "Our country is the world - our countrymen are mankind."
