CUTTS, Allen Sherrod, (1826-1896) was an American soldier who served as a colonel of artillery in the American Civil War, fighting for the Confederacy. Cutts raised a battery of Artillery in Georgia, known as the Sumter Artillery. Autograph Letter Signed "A.S. Cutts, Captain Sumter Flying Artillery", 3pp, writing to H.C. Wayne, Georgia Adjuntant General, Americus GA, may16, 1861, fine. A frustrated Cutts is requesting arms ... in part, "I wrote you some time ago in regard to to our Sabres + Bettery ... forwarded a requisition for Sabres and Pistols ... if we are to be refused any equipment for our Light Artillery it only remains for us to tender our services to the Governor or disband .... I have a large company of picked men, just such as are needed for a Flying Artillery Company ... Our Company will go for the War."
