Confederate Cross of Honor UCV 1912 Macon, Georgia with official documentation for "The Southern Confederate Bulletin No. 5" 1pp. quarto, and reads in part: "...Woe awaits the nation that can never know the truth of history. The most destructive battle falls upon the overpowered after the fall. the victors sow the seeds of satan and load them down with taxes that is beyond the capacity of production, and hire their leaders to do their will with the very money that they take by taxation. The mountain of ignorance cannot be climbed. As the generations are born they become more vicious, helpless and immoral. This is the Southern nation's condition today. Not until after the treaty of General Lee and General Grant was made at Appomattox, Va. and, in a measure, all felt well, only the keen spirit of power and justice seem to flash through the mind of that wonderful little army of Confederates, that faith would be broken and it was. Then they looked, being disarmed, to General Grant to preserve the rights of the treaty and he would not. Then the Southern nation that had preserved the liberties of the old republic for four long years saw democracy go down in the grave at Appomattox, Va., and the last flag of truth, virtue and liberty furled over it, and the virtue of the ballot take its everlasting flight..."
