Pair of bounty stocks, includes: STATE OF NEW YORK "Payment of Bounties to Volunteers" 1pp. oblong folio, June 26, 1865, paying the town of Smithtown $1,000. Fine condition...plus; STATE OF NEW YORK, July 1, 1866, paying the Madilla Bank $5,000. Fine condition. (2 items). These bonds were issued to raise money to pay the state's "Debt for the Payment of the Bounties" to encourage men to volunteer for the Union Army. The vignette at the top shows marching Union Troops in full uniform.
