c. 1840-1850's Civil War Era Use, Model 1840 Import Cavalry Sword, Fine. This Civil War Period Import Model 1840 Cavalry Sword has a 39" single-edge blade, marked on the ricasso "C & J". No scabbard. Its brass guard is intact and has a dark yellow to olive color age patina. Lacking 95% of the twisted brass wire and leather covering the wood grip is missing. The blade has an attractive rich thick brown patina and measures 41" overall..
