STANTON, Henry (c 1796-1856) was a United States Army officer who was brevetted brigadier-general for meritorious conduct in the Mexican War (1846-1848). Autograph Letter Signed "Henry Stanton Col. & Asst. Qr. Mr. Genl. U.S. Army" 2pp. quarto, Office of Purchase Qr. Mr. Department, Philadelphia, Pa, October 22, 1842, addressed to Colonel Thomas Aspinall, US Consul in London, and reads in part: "...The War Department is desirous of introducing into our Barrack service the Iron bedstead now used in the British Army; and I have been instructed to procure from England ten as samples of the latest and most approved modes..." More. Fine condition.
