c. 1800s Federal Period Early 19th Century, Decorative American Eagle, expertly Hand-Carved from a single piece of Wood, Choice Extremely Fine. This impressive, original Federal to early 19th century Hand-Carved Decorative American Eagle measures about 11" wide (wing to wing) x 11" long (beak to tail) and 6" tall. It's talons grip atop a 3.25" diameter ball, likely from use as an early American finial. Upon close inspection the Expertly Hand-carved wings, the Eagle, and Ball were all carved from a single piece of wood. Three breaks are well repaired, one to the back of the tail where a piece has been reattached, and two on the right wing being reattached. Original gold gilt surfaces painted many years ago. One can see some underlying gold gilding through the paint. At the bottom base of the ball there is a small hole provided for its use as a finial for the top of a flag pole. A beautifully handmade patriotic Federal Period decorative carved wooden American Eagle.
