March 11, 1782-Dated, Manuscript Document Signed, Camp Ponpon, South Carolina, Payorder from Major General Nathaniel Greene, Fine. March 11, 1782-Dated Original Manuscript Document from Camp Ponpon (near Charleston, South Carolina) where a Lieutenant of the 2nd Pennsylvania Regiment has received payment from Major William Alexander which he received from Major Pierce, Aide de Camp of Major General Nathaniel Greene. Document is 6" x 3", boldly and well written in rich deep brown on very clean fresh period laid paper and easily readable. The 2nd and 3rd Pennsylvania Regiment, first known as the 2nd Pennsylvania Battalion, was raised on December 9, 1775, at Philadelphia, Pennsylvania for service with the Continental Army. The regiment would see action during the Battle of Valcour Island, Battle of Brandywine, Battle of Germantown, Battle of Monmouth and the Battle of Springfield. The regiment was furloughed, on June 11, 1783, at Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and disbanded on November 15, 1783.
