A pair of pre-printed vouchers, 8-1/2’ x 13-1/2”, each signed by George J. Crump as United States Marshal, authorizing payments for individuals riding in the posse in Cherokee Nation. To include; August 30, 1894 for H.H. York, $18.00, “ ...pursuit of Lettie Whitmire, arresting him Aug. 21st ...” ... plus, January 19, 1895, $9.00 for J. E. Reed “.. there be arrested George James Price ...” George J. Crump, Kentucky, in 1841-1928. He enlisted in the Confederate cause in 1861, attaining the rank of captain, and fought in the battles of Oak Hill, Farmington, Corinth, Iuka, the Siege of Port Hudson, and James Ferry. He was a lieutenant colonel in the Brooks-Baxter War, which political disturbance forms a prominent link in Arkansas history. He was a Legislator in both houses in Arkansas, US marshal for the western district of Arkansas 1893-97, and a member of the Constitutional Convention.
