Federal Officers letter, written and signed by Jon F. Porter, Jr.” December 19, 1863, Libby Prison, Richmond, 1pp. He requests of his friend, in small part, “tin plates, cups, pocketknife, notepad ....” He continues, “Of my capture last June you have doubtless heard, a more unmitigated set of blunders occured ... I shall settle with the coward when made the statement some day ...” Captain Porter was taken prisoner on the 15th of June, 1863, in the attack on Port Hudson. He was carried to Jackson, and thence conducted to the rebel capital, which he reached on the 29th of June. In Richmond, he was incarcerated in the now famous Libby prison.
